Sterilization

Not that I'm thinking of sterilizing any geckos, but it occured to me the other day. Is it possible? If it is, is it a complicated surgery?

I thought it could be convenient in some instances, like for example, when giving for adoption a gecko with a genetic defect or that wouldn't survive breeding. Or if somebody wants to keep males and females together in a tank but doesn't want to produce any offspring.

I'm against performing surgery on animals in most cases if their health isn't at threat, but thought it was an interesting subject.

Yes, both genders can be 'sterilized'. It is less complicated to remove the males' hemipenes, but having him housed with a female that is ovulating is very frustrating for them.

Females can be 'spayed', but it requires abdomenal surgery with a fairly long recovery time.
