Still learning - A little help please?

am planning on breeding my Leo's next season.

But I'm a little stuck with the genetics. I'm trying to sort it out in my head but I keep getting confused!

I'd really appreciate a little input if anyone has a minute to spare?

1st: Blizzard (f) to Blazing Blizzard (m)
Is this a double recessive? If so am I likely to just get Blizards from this pairing het for Blazing? Or am I way off the mark here???

2nd: Bell Albino (f) to Blazing Blizzard (m)
I tried the punnet sqaure on this and I just confused myself! I got 1 normal, 2 normals 66% het for blizzard & bell....then I got lost!

Thanks for any help with this.

You are 100% correct on the first pairing.

I would not suggest doing the second pairing. Only because your BB is either a Tremper or Rain Water albino. There are 3 albino strains on the market and they do not inter-mix. Unfortunately there are no BB that are Bell albino. But if you did pair them up you would end up with ALL normals het for Blizzard, Bell albino and the other albino gene that is in the BB. You need to find out what albino gene is in the BB and then pair that up with another gecko that is carrying that same albino gene.

I hope that clears it up. Let me know if you need further explanation.

Thanks so much! It seems I am learning something then :main_yes:

Now, I have been told on a different forum that by breeding the bell albino to the blizzard and the breeding the offspring to each other/back to parents I have a very slim chance of a blazing bell.

But if as you say the blizzard is going to be Tremper or Rainwater, how would this be possible?

This is true. From my knowledge only one person has produced a Bell BB (Blazing Blizzard), unfortunatly that baby died.

But if as you say the blizzard is going to be Tremper or Rainwater, how would this be possible

A BB is a Blizzard that is also albino. A Blizard does not have ANY albino traits, unless it is het for albino. Going off of what I said earlier (no Bell BB), your BB is either a Tremper or Rain Water albino. If you were to take your bell and cross it with a tremper albino you would not produce any albinos. They would all look normal being het for both albino genes. Sine you have a BB it has to be carrying one of the other albino genes (tremper or RW). Therefore I wouldn't cross the BB with the Bell albino because you would just get hets.

In short I would just stick to the first pairing that you were going to do, Blizard x Blazing Blizzard. You could buy a male Blizzard (not het for albino) and cross it your bell. Then breed the offspring back to each other to try and make the first
Bell BB.

Stitch thanks again.

I hope you didn't think I was doubting what you had told me, its just a little confusing as I'm just learning all of this and I just need things clarifying.

Thanks again!

Oh it's no problem, we all have to start some where. You can ask any questions you want or you could try the search button at the top of the page.

Let me know if you need any further clarification. ;)
