Dante is still having eatting issues. Here's the basic run down of everything that has gone on for those who don't know the whole story.
Dante and his brother Obi were purchased at a chain store April 8th. Dante had quite the appitite the first two days and then stopped eatting all together, Obi on the other hand ate inconsistantly the first week or so then also stopped eatting all together.
They were originally housed in a small 7-8 gallon kritter keeper with a heating pad stuck to the side. It was a consistant 81 degrees during the day, then about 75 at night.
They were then moved into a one side of a seperated 29 gallon tank. An over head infared light has been their heat source. Warm side (which is the center of the tank) is a consistant 91 degrees floor, and the cooler side is about 80-85 (both floor temps). Still no difference in appitite.
This has been going on for several weeks, we started hand feeding them banana baby food. Also took them to the vet where she perscribed them Carnivore Care (supplement to mix into the baby food) and gatorade soaks. Continued hand feeding for another week.
Still no change, called the vet several times and dr. was never in so we were referred to a different vet. But this time Obi was super, super skinny. Dante was as well but not as bad. Second vet did fecal testing on both and they came back positive for parasites. Both were put on a 4 week routine of 1 dose of Panacur a week.
Two days after the first dosing Obi passed away.
Took Dante back to the vet a week later, and he was given the second dose. He also started having mini seizures when going into his gatorade soak. Called the vet again, and was told to keep an eye on him if they got longer or if he didn't snap out of it.
He's still being handfed every night the babyfood/Carnivore Care and we just did the first Gatorade soak since Thursday. No seizure.
Now after a fairly lengthy conversation with the vet, he said that since he is doing well with the Panacur (only side effect really has been his energy level being totally sapped for about 2-3 days after the dose), then he might have a chance. It's still 50/50, but if he starts eatting normally again he has a slightly better chance of surviving. Next week I do plan on tiling the bottom of his tank (since it was reptile carpeted, but later switched to papertowel) and hope that it provides more belly heat.
So pretty much.... I have tried putting him in a small kritter keeper with a cricket, mealie, and waxie.... I've pushed each in front of him where it's visible and he doesn't even look at it. I've also tried bumping the cricket from behind to make it move around, hoping the movement will catch his attention and interest. Nothing. I've also pulled the back legs of crickets, cut open mealies/waxies, and still nothing. Is there anything else that anyone can possibly think of that might get him eatting crickets again. Anything? I'm beyond desperate at this point, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the novel. lol.
