I still haven't seen him eat it. He has now had a week without crickets and I am worried!
I don't want him to go hungry!

Any suggestions?

well first of if he is not eating crickets i'm assuming he is eating crested gecko diet, and im pretty sure crested gecko diet is good for him. But if you still want him to eat crickets maybe you could put him into a seperate container like a sterilite tub. Or if you use a loose substrate you could change it to paper towels so the crickets can't burrow.I know this is not the best example but at my locale petco they had a male crested gecko who was raised from the 3inch size to his adult 8inch size on CGD and he was very fat and healthy!

It's not that he is not eating crickets, someone recommended she stop feeding him crix to try to get him on the CGD. Personally in my opinion I would rather just stick with what he eats, I know CGD is good for them, but they don't NEED it. Idk my personal opionion is just to feed him crix and then put CGD in every once in a while as a supplement to his diet, that's what I do with my day gecko.

That was me that recommended that and that is how almost all breeder get them switched over to cgd. it's not going to hurt the gecko and he is probably already starting to eat cgd. I've been breeding them for 7 years and have had to do that many times with geckos on baby food or crickets so I'm not just making it up. It takes them time to start eating it if they are not use to eating it and if they are offered other food then they will go for the food that they know they like.

Oh I know I agree with you, if you want to switch them over that is the way to do it. I was just saying if she is that worried just go back to crickets since she knew he was eating them. Didn't mean to come across like I was going against what you said, I probably should've worded my response differently. I mean that's how I got my BTS to start eating veggies. I was just saying since it isn't necessary for them to eat it more as a supplemental thing, like day geckos having DGD, if she was that worried then she should just switch back to crix.

I would just stay off the crix and see if he does noticably eat the CGD. I dont think it will hurt him to be off the crix for awhile unless he is already very thin. As long as he is healthy he will be fine. If anything he may be holding out waiting on you to break and feed him more crickets...I think you should continue on CGD alone unless you see him start to look skinnier.

I was nervous the first time I did it too. As long as he's not really thin and he is still pooping then he will be ok. They usually take just a few licks at first until they learn that it will be their main food source. Now mine will finish the whole bowl and they hardly ever ate any.

Like any animal when it gets hungry enough instinct will take over and it will eat the CGD. Also are you SURE its not eating it? I mean i was very skeptical at first as well, but unless you sit there all night and watch it the entire time youre probably just not seeing it eat. They eat VERY LITTLE, after all they are just licking it up. I found mine like to eat later in the night after they have been awake for a few hours. So just hang in there and give it some time i guess!

Just keep in mind that bananas are not a complete nutritional diet for a crestie. You can try mixing the cgd with bananas and gradually use less bananas and more cgd till she converts fully. Also cresties have tiny stomachs and eat very little, I's say as long as the crestie is active at night and not having trouble walking she's probably already eating the cgd.

We give Waldo pieces of banana as occasional treats-he loves them. The first two weeks we had him, he didn't show much interest in the CGD. I don't know if that was due to stress or if he'd been eating something else (he was a PetSmart gecko). One night I put some on my finger and started dotting the tip of his nose. He kept licking it off, and eventually we worked him up to eating it from a spoon. I like feeding him that way because it lets me monitor how much he eats and how often, plus it makes him associate handling with something positive. Also, I don't feel particularly comfortable putting food in his viv. We have occasional ant problems, and I don't want them going anywhere near him.

Well there has been no more bannana since that day and he still won't eat the cgd so I gave him some crickets.

And I tried handfeeding, he is not too fond of it but I will keep on trying!

try what the poster above said and dab some on his nose and let him lick it off. That's what i did with my first crestie cause i thought he wasn't eating, then one night i caught him eating and he took like 3 licks and was done. you can also try putting the food up high like i did here

for some reason my tiger prefers to eat up high and hardly ever comes down to the ground except when hunting crickets.

If it's the gecko in the other thread you started then he is definately eating and looks very healthy;) At that size you still may not see much gone but he looks nice and fat.:). I have 4 about that size in one tub and give them a 1 oz cup about half full and there is hardly any gone before it molds but they are eating it.
