I was browsing through my website logs (something I like to do on occasion) to see who's all linking to my site, and I come accross this site:
http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-12115525-_JM

For those of you that don't speak spanish, here's the loosly translated version: http://translate.google.com/transla...&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=/language_tools

Someone is using my photos to sell their animals. They link directly to photos used on the geckolist (which, admittadly, I didn't take most of the photos, but use them with permission), and some that I actually took (like the leo photo).

I also noticed the link to a prehistoricpets.com photo by the same seller here: http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-12723075-eublepharismania-_JM

Seeing as how they are just linking to my images I could change them on my server (or even just remove them), and I doubt I'll get anywhere by e-mailing the guy...

Mainly, this is a friendly reminder to check your website logs often :)

Brian... how do you check your website logs? I'm sure it's something you could figure out with our site, seeming the circumstances :)

My host actually has an installation of awstats on the server that I use. Give me a day or two to look into your site and I'll let you know via PM or e-mail what I find out.

I decided to just use the .htaccess to image redirect all requests from that site to this image instead:
theft.gif

That should deter them at least... kind of fun to screw with their site though...

This is the second breeder that I see doing that (stealing images to sell their own animals). I think I know this "Treecko Gecko". I think he posted a few times in a Spanish forum I frequent.

Other guy used a picture from other breeder that showed albino, piebald, cinnamon, and other ball python morphs that are almost impossible to find in Spain. He said that he sold albino pythons... That turned out to be albino burmese pythons (cheaper and more common than ball pythons). Yeah, he didn't specify which kind of pythons he sold, but the picture was obviously there to lead to confusion.

ROTFLMAO Brian, that is AWESOME!!! Don't you hate it when people deliberately misrepresent things like that? Not to mention stealing to do so!

About 1 1/2 years ago now RSS reptile stole a pic of my APTOR and made some slight changes to it (made it change colors). They were using it as their logo of all things! Funny thing is, those clowns are from the other side of town!
