Strange Behavior?

I got my first leo yesterday, and I love it. But there is one thing that is confusing me. It seems to not like to come out of its dry/warm hide at all, day or night. The only time it comes out is when it sees a mealworm or cricket. I just came home around 1:30 and looked, and all I saw was its head poking outa the hide a lil. Is this normal for being in a new enclosure maybe?

Yeah I'd give him awhile. Not sure how big or old it is but any new environment will probably be stressfull. He'll come around once it gets settled in.

That's kinda what I was thinking, just wanted to reassure myself. It's only like 4". Should I not handle for a week or so, or would it help?

There's not really a standard. Just watch and see how it goes. I would say give at least 3-4 days then try just setting your hand in the tank and let him get used to you, then gradually handle him more till he's comfortable. It all varies by each gecko.

My hatchlings tend to cave in when I let them lay in my palm of my hand in their tub, they relax on the heat, and learn that I'm not a harm to them.

I handle mine right out of the incubator. But any reptile will be stressed after shipping to some degree.

Alright, I'll give it some time. It is eating well though.

Now it's acting oppositely lol. I've had the light on for about an hour, and it wont go back into a hide. At first he wouldn't come outa the other hide during the day or at night, now its staying out lol. I took the other hide out because it is a fish tank plastic rock decoration. I noticed that there were quite a few small holes/places that it could, and kinda did get stuck. So I removed it from the viv and put the coconut hide in its place.

A proper hide doesn't have to be an asthetically pleasing one. I use rubbermade containers 4X6 with a hole cut out of the top and filled with peat moss. Most breeders use this and it is very affective. Use multiple hides and he/she will pick their favorite to use.
