Stuck shed in the eye

One of my gecko has a bit of retained skin in the corner of his right eye. I tried everything to get it off for him, but was unsuccessful; as the bit of skin is microscopic small and is extremely close to the eyeball (almost touching it). I also noticed he winks his eye once in a while. Other than that, he seems to be not too bothered with it; he is still very active with 2 bright eyes. Although the right eye is now slightly smaller than his left eye, as the skin is sticking the corner of the eyelid together.

Can I wait for it to naturally come off with his next shed? Will this small irritation to the eye cause an eye infection?

I can't really answer your question, but I did have someone bring a Gecko to me that had an enormous amount of shed skin stuck in its eye, because of that, the eye got a really bad infection. The people did bring her to the Vet and got medication for it, but it got worse and worse. Unfortunately, by the time they decided to give her to me, she had stopped eating and was just so weak, I ended up putting her down.

If you decide to bring her to the Vet, they will probably give you an eye ointment (I forget what it'a called) to put on her eyes twice daily. The ointment cost about $7.

Is the eye ointment for eye infection? He doesn't have an infection just yet, just a very small bit of skin at the corner of his eye. I can take him to a vet, but since the bit of skin is so small and so close to his eyeball, even if the vet tries to get it off for him, I would be very worried about injuries to his eyeball.

I'll keep watching him, if he doesn't eat or his eye doesn't look right, I'll get him to the vet right away. Thanks.

I had the same problem before, and I used some very small tweezers to get it off, Mike had to hold him though while I did it. I'm glad he's not one of my more jumpy leo's. Good luck!!

I had gotten it when my Gecko had an eye infection., but my Vet said you can use it for shedding problems with the eye as well.

Where's Marcia, she knows what it's called.

I think he is getting better, I didn't see him winking that eye at all last night, and he ate some silkworms for me too! Although the corner of the eyelid is still slightly stuck together. My poor Hardees! I'll see if I can take a pic of him tonight.

Ive had this problem a few times with my leos, and what i did was take very thin pointed tweezers and a bit of water and a q-tip. Id moisten the q-tip and then use it to moisten the area on the eyelid/above the eye where the skin was, then dunk the tweezer tips in water and gently nip it off. If you cant use a q-tip cause of the small area tweezers with water on them works with alot of paitence.
