Hi all, I need to Vent. I had 12 chinchilla's, 2 different cage setups. and mysteriously one by one of the one cage set ups started dying( within two days)I couldn't get them to a Vet because it was A holiday weekend. First it was my normal male Stormy, I just couldn't believe it and the next day I noticed one of his twin Mosiac boys acting listless, so I made a Hospital cage and did a check up. There wasn't any symptoms other than listless so I put it in the warmer room and kept a eye on them One died that night and the other died the next morning. Prior to that my female Myst had 5 babies which is very unusal and I figured we would lose one or two since a chin can't handle that many babies and even though I would start feeding them there was two very tiny sickly babies. The next morning when the other twin died two babies died and then the rest that night, next day was my beloved Myst died! Chins are very hardy and of course I needed to find out what happened so I sent them for a Autopsy. My other chins (I have three left). Breezy(mom)normal, Velvet (dad) he is a black velvet/ebony and smokee their normal daughter. They are all fine. I just got the results: Poisoning from a bug spray( organic bug spray go figure!) that says its safe around animals but I keep telling my husband not to use it too close to their house. Well he is devastated as am I. I feel so bad that such a thing has happened. Even though I had planned to sell the young from the adults I had I certainly didn't want this to happen. Poor babies! Anyways other than venting please keep in mind that NO bug spray is safe at all! Thanks for letting me vent. Deb

I'm so sorry for your loss. Poor things! I would write to the company that makes the spray and inform them that there product in infact NOT safe around animals. Send them a copy of the autopsy report for proff and ask them to stop advertising as safe around animals so this does not happen to anyone else.

I am so very sorry to read of your loss and my heart goes out to you

I am so very paranoid with lizards all over the house that i do not even use any aerosol sprays of any kind-and all of my household cleaners are carefully screened for possible fumes etc

This is just a carry over from my tropical fish keeping days when a spray of something in the room with a fish tank could possible wipe out the whole tank

I know that there is nothing that i can say to make you feel any better but again-I am so sorry for your horrible experience
Please take care
