stupid mealworms...

I've had my gecko for about 4 days now and this morning I was so proud because I thought he'd eaten 6 mealworms from his bowl overnight (after only eating what I put right in front of his face the other days). So this afternoon I was going to re-mist his paper towel in his humid hide (which he has yet to even go in by the way...the Petco where I got him from didn't have any humid hide in his tank so I don't think he knows what it is) and I found all those mealworms in it on the paper towel. So I guess it's time for me to find a better feeding bowl and until then I've taken all the mealworms out and I'll just serve him like I've been doing since I don't want to have to worry about them crawling everywhere.

I've heard of people using peanut butter lids for feeding dishes and I was wondering if they are effective at keeping the mealworms from escaping. I figure I could try that before making a special trip to the pet store. Any feedback would be appreciated to help me take care of my spoiled brat!

Well because you just got him she still might be getting used to you and has to settle before he starts eating right again. I hand feed my guy so I'm not one to say anything about spoiling!! :D

You don't need something so fancy. You could just use a ceramic bowl from petco which can be found in the reptile and small animal sections(the smaller ones) and they go on sale often.

I bought some small glass ramicans (if that's how you spell it) at target. They were like $3 for a pack of 4. Mealworms can't climb out of the glass and the geckos learn how to eat out of them fairly quickly.

Anything with a glossy ceramic glaze or glass will work well, maybe even sleek plastic, so long as the lip is ~as high as the length of the mealie. I would imagine a peanut butter jar lid would not work well as it has the threading on it, which the mealies could climb up (potentially).

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I ended up trying a fish food lid and so far the mealies are staying in...now we'll see if Bob (the gecko) will eat out of it or not. But if not, I'm glad that he does at least eat if the food's put in front of his face, better than not at all.

i use a little cat water bowl from wal mart, they are very cheap and the bowl part is metal, so it is impossible for them to crawl out of them. even the supers have a hard time getting out of them, but the supers can escape sometimes.
