Yep, that's me.

This is so unlike me, but I totally got taken by a tiny little gecko at Petco! I've noticed him for a couple weeks now, going to buy cat food, etc. and he stood out because he was so much smaller than the rest, differently colored, and tailless. To make matters worse, they still house their geckos on sand and the mealworm dish was twice as tall as him! And today the leos were ON SALE.

Blah blah blah you guys know the rest.

He's really tiny and I'm pretty sure he'll lose that one toe, he's got a small nick on his head, and came home with some sort of gunk in his eye - hopefully just skin cause it came right out and looks fine now. I hope he'll pull through for me. I've got him quarantined, on damp paper towel and have put some mealies out for him.

Now here's my question for you: What is he? Is he a baby tremper? A low-temp baby that would probably make him a her? My first reaction was Snow, but that couldn't be, could it?

Here he/she/it is at a whopping 2.8 grams!

Aww man! I would have demanded him for free from the manager. They would give you NO PROBLEM if you said that you will take it and care for it. I would have said if they don't, you will report the store for cruelty. I know that they are not the best geckos, but they deserve more than that. BTW, that toe is 100% dead, I would take it too the vet if it doesn't come off on its own, the vet sould be able to snip it off.

Yeah, I've tried.

Unfortunately, they keep getting new managers who want to do things their way. I actually had an employee tell me that the little guy "just probably needs more FRUIT in his diet." He then went on to add "most people just don't know the diet requirements of these lizards."

I told him that he was one of those people and took my little guy up to the register.

It really does make me angry, but it's so frustrating knowing how little I can do.......

So, he's awful light for a tremper (no evidence of yellow anywhere) you guys think that will start to show after a little TLC?

Wow..I hate that...the store and the fact this happens. There is so much too say, and that Ive already said in the past. Bottom line is what Shaun said, at least its in good hands now. Looks like a extreme stressed trempor to me also. Should yellow up after som TLC and more than likelly some meds. Good luck!

Poor little gecko. I definitely would have done the same thing. It looks like a tremper (most albinos are from petco), but just in bad shape. I received a rescue about a year ago that looked almost like that one. She turned out the be right yellow and one of my biggest leos to date. I bet it will color up and gain some weight really quick. Good luck.

Just a quick update...

Eating like a little piggy and growing, but slower than I'd like... and finally his yellow is starting to show a little, I'm really glad I got him out of there.

Glad to see the little guy is doing well. I don't go into the Pet/co/mart/chain stores anymore. I can't. It disgusts me how they treat the animals. I'm not expert on Leo's or any reptiles. Far from it, but with the Internet as it is you'd think it would be really easy to look up with the pros say...sigh. But at least one leo is alive.
Vote me for President and animal cruelty will become more than a 50 dollar fine and a misdemeanor...it will be a felony with 2,000 hours of community service.
