suicidal gecko

I just got my gecko last week in a ten gal tank with sand. I found a 20 gal tall for 5.00 and got some tiles to replace the sand. i've ordered a Habi-Scape Rock Wall for the background and i should be getting it sometime this week. Now, what I want to do is buy some clay and build a couple of ledges. One the length of the tank 24 inches, starting at 1 inch from the ground and climbing up to 4. It will be glued to the rock background. Another about 8 inches in length and 6 inches of the bottom of the tank. This will be glued to the front glass of the tank. i plan to use a piece of tile as a ramp from the first ledge. And finally a huge ledge about 16 length and 8 inches from the bottom of the tank. It will be glued to the rock background and the side of tank, so 16X12. now my question is this. Is 8 to high for my gecko. If he happens to fall or decides to jump off can he hurt himself?:main_huh:

well, they are ground dwellers in the wild, so they are not too used to heights. I would, however, assume that a fall from less than 12 inches cant cause any injuries. Also, I am of the opinion that these creatures are fairly intelligent. Only the babies seem to make fearless jumps, all of my adults seem to know better.

Agreed, there always the chance of a freak accident, but those are relatively un-preventable.

The only time our leo makes poor decisions is when he's startled, so I wouldn't open the cage suddenly or attempt to handle him while he's perched on one of those higher ledges. Other than that, it sounds like a great idea, I hope the leo takes advantage of it.

We have a large faux wood cavern that was made for a fish tank in our normal's home. He climbs all over that thing like it was flat. It's probably about 12-18" tall.

Go for it. Making the stuff is half the fun of keeping leos.
