Superworms & Large Mealies?

I have a few questions:

1) I have 2 6-7 year old leos that have always been on a diet of crickets. I have recently given them some leaies and waxies and they seem to like them but won't eat more that 2 or 3. Can I start feeding them superworms or large mealies?

2) Is there a link or a place where I can purchase large mealies? I only have 3 leos currently, so I don't need them by the hundereds.

3) With superworms, do you feed heads on or heads off?

Thanks!
Emily

1) Yes!
2) You can buy large/giant mealworms from places like PetCo and PetSmart, they have tubs of 35, 100, and 500. The reason for buying in bulk, though, is to save money.. You can get 35 for $2, 100 for a little over $3 (i think), and 500 for close to $7. I think 500 for three leos would be good, they stay alive for a pretty good amount of time (couple months) when they are kept in the fridge.
3) I have only fed supers to my beardies, and I don't remove the head.

ok most people I talk to say that they don't chop off the head, but I wanted to make sure. I have heard from the petsmart/petco,ect. people (no use listening to them, they just say stuff to make money) that you need to chop off the heads, as the worms can chew through the gecko's stomach. I only would get the 35 or so because IDK if my leos would like them. I don't want 100+ to go to waste if the leos aren't gonna eat them, you know? Thanks for the info!

there was a thread somewhere where the subject of mealworms or super worms eating through the stomach came up, and the general consensus is that it's just a rumor :)

I just want to awnser this:

1. It's great to add variety into your animals diet so go for it!

2. Not in the U. S, but I've heard that Sunshine mealworms has good prices.

3. Feeding them with there heads on. I have never tried without. IF the head gets chopped off doesn't that take away there movement there for not being attractive to the Geckos?

Worms chewing through your animals body is an urban myth. If you want to be sure and to test something out get a glass of water and put a mealie/superowrm in there and see how fast it dies. After you see that imagine how fast it would be in body acids.

Hope this helped...

ok thats what I thought. I knew it can't be true that even after the gecko chomping on the worm its gonna chew through the stomach. Its better to be safe than sorry by asking! :p
