OK this might be a real stupid question but here goes: can you use a surge protected power strip with a thermostat?

Yes you can and it would be plugged into the wall and the thermostat would then be plugged into it. Not trying to sound condescending, but some people may read that as putting it between the thermostat and rack/cage.

well.. what i was thinking was my thermostat has 3 outlets.. i was going to plug 3 power strips into those outlets giving me more outlets ran off of one thermostat.can this be done? i will be under the recommended wattage.my only concern was if i use a surge protected power strip it would mess up the thermostats ablility to regulate power does this make sense?

That become very ricky because you are controlling the thermostat with one probe. You would be better served with a extention cord at 1/5th the price also :)
