Switched to mealworms

I recently switched to mealworms from crickets. The mealworms last longer and my gecko likes them. They come in this container with sawdust for the bedding. For the gutload I use ground up dog food and a piece of potato for moisture. Am I doing this right? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Mealworms are great. I keep mine on organic wheat germ in my refrigirator. I take them out once a week and put a slice of organic apple in the holding tank and leave them out for 24 hours to hydrate themselves. Then I remove the apple and stick them back in the fridge. I remove the ones I plan on feeding the day before and place them in a seperate container with a little wheat germ and apple slice so they are good to go the next day.

Thanks!I put the potato and dog food in and left them out for a bit to wake up and eat.About 25 minutes later I looked in the container and a lot of them had surfaced and were eating the potato. I took it out when it turned black on the edges. I forgot to put a piece back in and they are still alive. Do they need the moisture from it constantly?

I switched from crickets to mealworms because crickets smell horrible. The geckos were ok with them at first, but be weary if they start to lose interest in them like mine currently have. I'm now waiting for a shipment of silkworms.

Okay. I was moving all of the bedding to get mealworms today and I found a big piece of something like wood. I was kind of lighter almost white in color but didn't have any fuzzy look so I don't think it's mold. Especially since it was crunchy. Was it just a piece of ungrinded bedding?
