my bearded dragon has tail rot that has gone crazy. i dont have the money to afford a vet im thirteen years old. i adopted him from the SPCA... and they told us it would clear up after a while. but instead it just got worse. he is full grown and bright yellow. his name is mushu. the tail rot has taken up all but an inch of his tail and has jumped to his shoulder. i dont want him to die and antibiotics have done nothing. if he does die i can guarantee it wont be a painful death as he is still functioning perfectly and has a huge appetite. any home medicines would be great and dont even say i should go to the vet cuz i cant.

Hi there and welcome to GF. Seeing your situation, there is quite a bit 'typical' with what you are stating but I'm not going to get into all that. I will give you my suggestion though as to what needs to be done here. Because you can not get to a vet, because this will likely not change later in the dragons life, because he already has a serious (and yes, painful) medical condition, and because you are clearly too young to care for this animal yourself, I would highly advise you to take the dragon to an animal/reptile rescue, a wildlife sanctuary or rehabilitation facility, or back to the SPCA. It's better to do what is in the animals best interest.

If your family allowed to you to adopt this pet, they should also let you take him to the vet to get some medicine. Cant you offer to do some chores around the house, and you can pay them back in that way?

I second what Bridgette has said. Sorry, but if you can't afford vet care of any kind, then you should not have adopted an animal (especially not one that was already in need of medical assistance). In any case, I can guarantee that at least 90% of all animals will require vet care of some kind during their life span. If you can't afford that on your own, then you need to work it out with your parents. If they don't understand, or refuse to help, then you need to surrender that animal to someone who can properly care for it.

There are not any home remedies to help with this. The beardie needs to see the vet.

I have to agree with the "take the beardie back to the SPCA", they should not have adopted a sick animal out to a teen who could not provide the continuing medical treatments that it still needed.

You are a minor and if your parents allowed you to adopt this animal, then they are required to provide vet care if it needs it. I can't imagine the SPCA adopting out to a teen without a parent signature or something, if so shame on them, if a parent did help you adopt then they are required to provide vet care. You are 13 and have no way of getting a job to earn money to pay for this care. I agree with maybe asking them if you can do some extra chores around the house, but bottom line, the responsible adult who adopted or co-signed for this animal should take it to the vet. Period. This animal needs medical attention as soon as possible, you can't make this better at home.

From the sound of what your saying, your bearded dragon does not have tail rot. It has yellow fungus. Yellow fungus is highly contagious and deadly. It is best you take him to somebody that is experienced like said earlier to an animal/reptile rescue, a wildlife sanctuary or rehabilitation facility. If you do not take him there, there is a pretty good chance he will die.
