Hello I was wondering what it means when your gecko wags his/her tail when food is not around. I heard somewhere that it is a sign of dominance ,but I wanted an experts opinion:help:

depends on the wag.... the snake wag is like get away from me and the rattle is for food prior to a strike. Usually the former is when either there threatened by you, see another gecko, or see there reflection.

I also saw the tail rattle when I attempted to put our 2 leos together. Since I'm not breeding, I wimped out & removed the female rather than seeing if they would be able to co-exist. A rattle to me is just like the rattle snakes battle cry--I'm about to STRIKE!

the rattle is a mating/feeding thing....when u put the 2 together the male was trying to "court" the female.

One of my little leo males ( about 5 or 6 months old) last night was doing the whole tail wagging thing when he saw himself in the reflection on the food dish... to me it was like a young boy becoming a man, I was so proud of him! haha.

An upright slow tail wave is a threatening gesture. A low quick shake can be out of excitement of food. A low vibrating tail means HE wants to mate.
