Taking care of Mealies

Hi I just got my Leo and also got 500 mealies . I put the mealies in the feeding dish so they do not escape. They seem to be almost dormant (not moving) i covered them with a little calcium and wondered do I have to have something in the dish to have them stay fed?

I like to put a piece of carrot in my dish with them. Keeps them going.

Agree'd... plus it tends to make them a little more active while in the dish. Just trade out old mealies every few days for fresh ones.
