Tale Twitch/Dropping?

I feel so horrible right now. I was cleaning cages and accidentally dropped the tuppaware moist hide on my leo's tail. He didn't drop it, but obviously he's not happy. My concern is that his tail is twitching a lot. It has died down after a few minutes, but it still spasms a little. I didn't hit his back or anything so I can't imagine I did spinal damage or anything. Is this just an indicator that he is just REALLY NOT HAPPY or possibly that I damaged the tail and he's going to drop it?

Thanks,
SMD

I'm not sure, I haven't had a tail drop (knock on wood). I would think if you touched the tail and he responded by moving or whipping the tail, then the tail is intact and should be fine.

Well it stopped twitching, and I didn't touch it at all. It was just twitching after the drop. Hopefully all will be fine. I think maybe it was just a reflex. Maybe in the wild when they are threatened they wag the tail to distract the predator and then drop it? I dunno, looks like all is okay, but would like an explanation of why he did that.

I would think so as well. He still has the tail, the twitching stopped, and he gladly ate food. I felt absolutely terrible cause I thought I really really hurt him and I don't know how I could live with that if I made the rest of his life miserable cause I broke his spine or something horrible like that :S.

Thanks Marcia and everyone :)

Like what Marcia said, I think it is more a nerve reaction. If you dropped something on your finger you would probably shake your hand a few times, and most likely keep doing it every so often until it stops hurting. That is probably all it is. Just sit him down and explain it was an accident. It will be just fine.

I've had a few of mine do that just because they didn't like my ugly mug peering in at them. I think it's a "Hey predator! Eat this part, it's moving the fastest!" and then they drop the tail and scurry off...
