OK so i bought a fishtank from a buddy who had had it for a while, and i wanted to clean it up. got the big gunk off with a razer blade. I had read around on ways to get waterspots off and nothing is working for me.
i tried: 0000 gauge steel wool
90% alcohol with salt to work as abrasive
vinegar and steel wool
baking soda and water.

i think thats it but i cant really get it as clean as id like. I feel like it just might not come completely clean, but i figured id ask if anyone had any way they think it might clean it. I remember seeing a commercial cleaner on-line but have not seen any in stores. thanks for your help. -Mitch

I know you already tried a razor blade but this has worked for me in the past on some pretty crusty aquariums....get a spray bottle full of water and a brand new razor blade. Spray the area that you are working on and scrape the glass in the wet area with the blade. Usually if you just apply a little pressure while scraping, it will come off fairly easy. It's important to keep the area wet while you scrape though. Hope this helps;)

I bought a really briny tank at a fish store going out of sale not too long ago. I scraped the majority of the brine off with a razor blade and then took the tank outside and used the hose for easy rinsing. I filled it up with soapy water and let it soak for a bit and then scraped it again. Repeat a couple of times and it was very clean. I still have a few water marks here and there but overall it's pretty good and you don't notice them. I also bleached the tank once it was cleaned and then let it air dry in the sun for some extra disinfecting.

Does the tank hold water? If so, take it outside and put it somewhere level. Dump a gallon of vinegar into the tank and top off the rest of the way with water. Let it sit for a day or two before trying the razor again. Then dump the water and rinse it really well. That should get rid of most hard water stains. I've used this method multiple times to clean my fish tanks and it makes it way easier to scrape off the calcium deposits.
