Temp. Probe Location?

Hi there! I recently switched to tile flooring from repticarpet, and it's done a fantastic job of bringing the temps. up in the tank while allowing me to turn the temps down to save energy.

I have an electric thermometer with probe and am just wondering what the best place to put the probe is in relation to the hot-side hide. I have a foam exoterra hide on the hot side and currently have the probe between the tiles and the foam hide, but obviously this traps heat and makes the temperature probe read about 10 degrees higher than the actual temperature.

At the same time, if I just put the probe on the tile, it doesn't stay stuck with the suction cup to the tile and doesn't stay near the heat pad underneath, so again the temperatures do not get measured 100% correctly. Any suggestions?

I bought a temp gun from petco for $20 and used that to see the hottest reading inside the warm hide. Pocket size temp gun. Then I taped both probe and digital thermometer probe to the hot spot.

Also every night I take the temp gun and and check the temps to compare them to the digital probe. When my probe says 90 degrees the hottest spot on the tile is 93.

The probe should be taped down to wherever your leo will be lying on. The probe needs to touch the floor so it measures the surface temperature and not the air.
