i put tile into my tank not to long ago but i dont want to glue it in but i NEED to find a way to keep crickets from crawling between the side of the tile and the tank and getting under the tile. its not like i have huge gaps im just useing small crickets because my leo is still a baby. i dont want to glue it in because i might be selling the tank later on or giving it to a friend as a fish tank and i need to upgrade to a 20 long when +++++ has the big sale on tanks. i saw someone a week ago asking about useing sand just around the cracks but i dont want that risk of impaction.

I use sand under my tile. I like it a lot. It spreads the heat out from the heating pad half way across the tank, and gives my guys a nice gradient for the temps. You might want to try that. I feed crickets in a feeding tank so I don't have to worry about that, but it should keep them above the tile.

The trick is to use play sand (NOT calcium sand). A gecko will not get impacted from a few grains of sand. They need to consume enough to form a ball that will clog their intestines to become impacted. While leos will purposefully consume calcium and calcium sand if they need extra, they really shouldn't consume sand that has no nutritional benefit.

That said, if you don't want to use sane you'll need to find another substance that is a conductor. Glue tends to dry to a plastic-like gel substance which is more of an insulator and may hinder the heat transfer between your UTH and tile.

My choice would be to stop using crickets and use mealworms and dubia in an escape proof bowl. I hate crickets...haha.

I'll give the play sand a shot. It would help a little too with my cheap heat pad because I put rubber feet under the tile so it wouldn't scratch the glass.

I had sand for a while But now I just paper towels on the bottom of my tank and put the tile on them. It worked out well. the sand just scares me ( I m pretty new and my leo belongs to my son who would be devastated if anything happened)
