Hey Geckoforums, have a couple questions for y'all experienced folk!
Working on setting up a 10 gallon habitat for a single leo. (Don't have the leo yet)
Using the ZooMed 10-20 gallon UTH and setting the temps for that right now.
Using two digital thermometers (Again, ZooMed) with probes I'm getting ~99*F on the heatpad and very slowly climbing (bare glass, plan to use two layer paper towels), with the thermostat it's on (Reptitemp 500R) at full wattage.
The probes are currently taped down (single piece of electrical tape), to be in contact with the glass at the approximate center of the pad where the hot hide would be placed.
The issue stems from using my infrared thermometer, reading a temperature of 116*F in the same area. Which to my knowledge, is accurate with it's readings. And touching the heatpad is DEFINITELY hotter than average human body temperature. I previously used this with a bearded dragon (not enough room when I moved and he was re-homed), exclusively, and it seemed to be an accurate gauge of just right temps.
So, my question to you all is: should I trust the digital thermometers with probes or my infrared thermometer to get an accurate surface temp and just note the not-quite accurate temps of the probe based thermometers? I'm thinking to let this run for a full 24 hours to see if the probe thermometers eventually hit the same max temperature I recorded with my infrared thermometer.
