I feel like a noob asking this or ever admiting im confused on it but since falls hit MN hard the temps dropped ALOT faster this year and my lovely leos are going into burmation!D: and some are still to little. There hot spots are 90F give or take a few . degress. Its heated with UTHs hooked to a thermostat. Males sides are slightly bigger then 20 long tanks and females are about 40 gallon equizalents. My question is its getting 90F in there hides but outside its its only like 80-82 on the hot side. I have the thermostat probe over a UTH in a hide so should i maybe move it out? I've been turning the lights on to get it hotter and find that with the air temp and UTH temps it goes to 111F or so WHICH is both factors not just the surface temp. When its like that they seem to feed better at night over when I dont turn the lights on. My question is am i wrong with turning the lights on and it getting that hot? Or is it fine? @.@ i know its surface temps that count more so. Umm need more info just ask and i can answer it;D can get better pic(s) or whatever if need be jsut took one big one@.@ thanks in advance!

111 F seems killer to me.

Also, they usually eat at night anyways I believe, or so that is what I've been told.

Butttt I have the same problem so I would also like an answer :) Except my UTH barely even reaches 85..it's pretty annoying because I got it so the temperature would stay consistant but it doesn't. So I also have the problem with the lamp being too hot. You can get different size bulbs though, that will reduce the temperatures. My problem is, I can only get the right bulb in blue but I want a natural colour bulb during the day.

Yeah Minnesota gets pretty cold. :)

The UTH is not enough to keep the temps up in the 90s alone for me either, so I use red bulbs. My male is in a 20L with a 75W, and my female is in a 15gal with a 60W bulb. My air temps on the hot side with this run 85-88 in the male's tank and 85 in the female's tank. The hot spots run around 92 degrees in each tank from the UTHs. Both cool sides are around 75 degrees.

If the bulbs are heating the surface up to temps over 100 degrees, you could try either moving the lamp higher over the tank, decreasing the wattage of the bulb, or change the type of bulb (i believe blue runs even cooler than red).

Also, if in an area the temps are too high, the leo will either spend little time in that area, or avoid it altogether, finding a temperature that it feels is suitable.
