Good day all,

I have a couple of questions about how i should setup my homemade incubator. I had built it out of plywood measuring 2'H x 12"w x 16"Deep... It has styrofoam on the inside with a cover over top of that of chemlite(white fiberglass product that is sealed). I have two fans installed, one at the top and one twords the bottom. I am using a heating pad to heat the incubator.

What is the best way of keeping the eggs at 81 deg? I know that they are suppose to be incubated at that temp for females however i have not been able to tell if it is the ambiant air temperature of 81 or if the vermiculite that i have the eggs in should be at 81?

I have two eggs in the incubator right now but i dont think they will survive. I candled them last night and they both are yellow with a fuzzy mold growing on top. One has claposed almost completely, and the other still looks the same as when it was laid just with a speck of mold on it. Any suggestions on why they went mouldy? I am using a 1;1 ratio.

Thanks for you help/suggestions in advance

You will need a thermostat to keep the incubator from getting too hot. A small probe therm inside a lidded deli cup will give you the medium temp, not to leave in with eggs, but in with some medium to check exact temp. Eggs go bad for a lot of reasons, and sometimes they just aren't meant to survive.
