Hello everyone. I have a leopard gecko in a 20 gallon long tank. I currently have a heating pad on one side of the tank and have a digital thermometer and have measured all areas of the tank. On the heating pad it is getting to the upper 90s and I am worried that this is too high.. but the air temp of the rest of the tank at night is in the upper 60s which I worry is too cold. What is the best way to balance this gradient out? Get a thermostat for the heating pad and add a ceramic heat emitter for the top of the middle of the tank? Any other ideas or opinions? Thanks a lot whoever helps.

I'm on a thermostat hunt myself right now. All I can say is, I bought a Zilla 1000W earlier today, and it didn't work, so I took it right back. No more Zillas. The reviews on Amazon weren't good either.

Just thought I'd throw that in there. :)

Until you get your thermostat, get a simple lamp dimmer in the meantime. Like a rheostat. Set it on low to bring down the temp of the heat mat. Cover your screen top most of the way with something...magazines, cardboard, etc. to keep the cool air out and the warm air in. Also, measure temps with a temperature gun. That's the best way to get accurate temps.
