Okay, so I have seen peoples terraniums and some people have levels to theirs. How do you get levels to your enclosures? Can it be done with a 10 Gallon tank?

Levels

Yes, you can have small levels in a 10 gallon.

These levels are hand made.

There are some threads in the housing section, I think, that show you how to do it.

There's lots of ways to do multiple levels. The idea is that you are getting more floor space in the same footprint. An easy way to do this is to use plastic or terra cotta flower pots. Cut out notches in the pots so the gecko can use them as hides, and then on top of them place a sheet of 1/4"-1/2" plexi or glass sheet, aprox. 4" wide. Now you have 2 hides, 1 on the cool side, 1 on the warm side, plus an extra level "bridge" that they can use at night that adds an extra 72 sq. in. to your 10 gallon, so now you have 272 sq. in. of floor space instead of 200 sq. in. If you need more explaining, feel free to ask.

PS: ypu can use a piece of wood, another piece of acrylic, ect for the ramp to the 2nd level. Just make sure it has grip.

Well Lady_Kiya I plan on making a second level in my 10gallon tank this winter hopefully before January. I plan to use acrylic, slate, aquarium glue and some other things. i think I'll take pictures as I so you can possibly get some ideas.

Exo Terra makes a 25 gal (18"x18"x18"), though it is expensive ($99.99). If you do have enough money though I would look into it, for it has front opening doors, a raised bottom that allows easy UTH installation, a cool fake rock wall that I think geckos can climb, and in general a very sleek look.

Also, on the opposite spectrum, you could get a plastic storage box (I recommend the 32qt. Iris plastic sweater box). They are cheap, light weight, easily stackable, and have more floor space than the Exo Terra. I think the boxes are fairly see through too.

Or are you looking into a something with a DIY cage? If so, I recommend that that you make it out of glass as it is the least likely to scratch, extremely washable, and if assembled correctly will last the longest. While you are building it, you might want to look into some sort of front opening door, like an Exo Terra. it allows easier access to geckos plus easier maintenance.

Good Luck and sorry if I am giving the wrong ideas.

I made a very simple second level. I used bamboo for the legs and cardboard for the whole floor. My gecko doesn't want to go to the lower level any more.

No no, it's good ideas. Just I am not that much of a... handy woman, so to speak. :main_laugh: One of my geckos has the exo terra that you were mentioning (the 18" by 18" by 18"). I would like to get Kiya one eventually, but for now I have to worry about getting my pay. :main_thumbsdown: And Christmas of course. :main_yes:

So for the time being I was looking into making another level for her to have a little more option then she does now. As he tank is a little crowded.

what i did on mine is i used a piece of 1*2 lumber you can find at any lowes or home depot. i then cut it to about 4-5 inches and glued that in one corner of my tank. I also got a piece of tile that would fit in my tank for like 2 bucks and i use two hides that i have to prop up the tile and it creates a very sturdy second level. The tile isnt glued down so it can come out very easy. i have the piece of driftwood that he uses to climb up and down.

Hope this helped you out.
