the fundamental morph

I'm still learning a lot about morphs and genetics, so I though it would be fun to find out which morph you all keep as a "base" to your projects. With which other morph do you breed? What can they produce?

I realize there may be no quick and easy answer, so thank you in advance for taking the time to indulge me. If you want to include ratios and percentages, that's even better, but really, I'm just interested as to what A plus B equals :)

I'm not sure if I exactly understand your question, but if you look at the thread of the most popular morphs, you will see that at shows most people sell out of tang hypos and tang super hypos the fastest. I'd consider a good group of SHTCTs a basic staple for a breeder. Of course others may disagree - it's really about what you like and like to work with. The hypos are valuable because you can take any morph and make it less spotty, which seems to be very attractive to most people, and with a beautiful tang color thrown in, they are pretty hard to resist!

just my .02 :)

I dont really think there is a base morph for leos, unless you are thinking normals. My main project is tang trempers, but i do sum other small projects.

Hey Erin, I've been working on a Leopard Gecko Wiki, www.leopardgeckowiki.com It has a section on Leopard Gecko Morphs and we are working on a genetics section.

Some people cross nice tangerines and carrot-tails into just about anything, so I guess if I had to label one as a "base morph" I'd say either of those.

Hmm, id say albino pretty much fits the bill!

There isnt really an answer though. I you have the money Enigma may be what you decide your going to try and put to everything, or maybe recreate all the 'done' morphs using a mack snow... etc..

The trick is start with a morph you really like, then work on its potential. This may be just line breeding to enhance the morph, maybe introducing new traits into an exsisting line of geckos, introducing new genes, or combining it with another morph to make somethiing different.

It all stems from just starting with what you like.
Its getting harder and harder to be origional with leos, but thats always the most fun route.
