The insanity

I went to a local petstore chain this weekend and was completely sickened by what I saw. I purchased my first 2 geckos from this store and I was lucky that one of mine is healthy and alive today. Having learned so much more in suck a short span with my babies and on here.. it truly upset me to see such thin, emaciated geckos barely moving and tails as thin as rails. I spotted one gecko that made me want to scream. It had no fat on it tail and it was trying to get into the water bottle. It looked worse than the one I lost to impaction. I was so upset that I just stood there and watch as the lil' one FINALLY made it into the water, immersed itself and collapsed. My husband couldn't take it either and told the young lady working there to remove it from the cage. He told her it was sick and going to die. She flipped it over and say "Oh yeah, it's got that weird purple stomach thing going on." I told her it was from impaction and that leopard geckos that size have no business being on sand. I also explained to her that we lost one of ours from listening to one of their sales persons and a book they sold and housing our baby on sand. She just looked at me and said, "what is impaction?" Grrr! Needless to say they removed the poor lil' guy prior to us leaving, but the sand wasn't removed and about a dozen others are in that substrate just waiting to get impacted. I can't stand it. I am glad my 3 babies are doing well and prospeing with us. Sorry for the vent, but needed to unload it somewhere and thought here was best!:main_angry:

Its always hard to see any animal in conditions like that - my local pet store always has reptiles in improper viv's - and often they look unhealthy - most have old sheds stuck to them and are skinny... you can always report the pet store if you think its really that bad!

My local Big Chain Pet store is getting better. The person in charge of the Reptiles has taken alot of grief housing each Reptile the way it is sopuse to be housed. She been working there 6 years and she told the Distric Manager if he did not like that she was house the Reptiles the correct way because she was sick and tired of them dying to Fire her. She is still working there. She just asked me 2 days ago if I had any leopard geckos for sale. I told her if she is ready for 1 or 2 to let me know.
