Thursday night my male and female got into a fight over food and she took the food out of his mouth and he attacked her and took her eye out and snapped her neck... i dug a grave but when i came back with the grave wood a dog had taken her body and ate her. I had tryed to get enough cash for a bigger tank but i only racked up 35 bucks when i needed 65 so until i get that enlarged cage or fix up my broken one im just sticking with one. When i do get a new one though i want a MAC snow i think breeding a female one with my HTCT would make some pretty nice babies well i just wanted to inform u all :)

Please don't get another gecko ..if you can't afford another tank. How do you know your male is not going to attack this new one? ( after quarentine)
Even with a bigger tank I don't think you should put them together.

Im sorry to hear that. Fights can get nasty.
at the first signs of your geckos fighting they should be seperated, unless it can get nasty. Im sorry it ended up that way for you.

though....if im perfectly honest, you dont sound too distraught.

Were you watching this go down or something? You should have seperated them when the fight first broke out.

I guess it's possible that this all happened in a matter of a couple seconds...but to lose an eye and snap a neck that quickly seems pretty unlikely.

This is of course, unless the male was quite a bit larger than the female, in which case they shouldn't have been housed together in the first place.

Also, if you cannot afford another tank...I don't think you should be breeding, at all.

Sorry for your loss, though.

Very sorry to hear about your leo. I would just focus on the one. Id listen to what Eric has to say. If you cant afford another tank right now breeding is a totally different ball game. Gets very very expensive, I have easily spend over $1200 my first breeding season. You also have to assume you will not sell any of your offspring. You must be ready, willing and able to care for a dozen or so baby geckos for there full life upto 20+yrs. One vet trip will cost you $65, buying food can run you upwards of $65 every couple weeks. Something to think about.

You have a herp vet that only costs $65?!?! Just to bring my bearded to the vet it's $120 to walk in the door. Anything else, just adds on. MAN! I wish we had a vet that charged only 65, I'm jealous. :sad3:

My vet only charges me $35 per gecko for a full checkup and $20 for an emergency visit, plus, it's only one mile from my house.:p:p:p

As to the topic of the post, all I have to say is that 1) you don't sound too upset about your gecko dying, 2) just concentrate on your remaining gecko and 3) if you can't afford a TANK, there is no way you can afford breeding...

But I am very sorry you lost your female...:(

Yea $65 for the visit. BUT get any kinda fecal, meds or whatever I end up at about $120 a visit. $65 just to look at them. If I get a fecal $35(which I think is over priced) and example of med cost another $20.

Yeah, so much so that I thought this might be a troll post (but the number of posts made total by the OP me think otherwise). It's hard to tell with kids too, as they can have little to no conscience sometimes. To them, if a pet dies, they can just "get another one" and everything will be okay. Sad but true.

My kids BAWL if one of our pets dies like it's the end of the world. Thankfully the younger one doesn't know what happens (yet) to the rabbits that don't make show muster, and has finally gotten over his love of the mouse colony that feeds the ball python. He knows those aren't pets.
