Hi,
I was just wondering what is the average weight of a female and male leopard gecko. I just weighed all my geckos today. I was actually thinking about breeding soon. My two Tremper Females are 56g and 62g. I weighed my dads geckos too today. Is it normal for a male leopard gecko, a regular not giant strain to be 8oz That would be over 200g. We have a male that weight. What is the normal breeding weight. I would be more concerned for the females, since they would be laying the eggs and stuff.
Thanks,
JJ

I sort of doubt you have a 200g gecko. No offense. Double check that one.

I've heard many times that the minimal weight for breeding females is 45g. Personally, I like to be in the 60's. Most of my ladies are in their low 70's. :) I have a few girls that I am letting "grow up/fill out" some more before they are bred (actually, they rae the only girls I'm breeding, just do I don';t sound like I do a lot, because I don't. My former breeder was always in the 70's for breeding, though, shes now retired) and ANYWAY haha, my girls that I'd like to get a bit bigger are high 50's and lower 60's.

So in short, my answer is, yes, you probably can breed them now, especially the 60+er but I'd just get the 50 something up a bit more. They can lose a lot of weight during breeding season. :(

And double check that male ;) I think the largest tremp. giant passed away sometime when he was in the 140-150g range??? Someone correct me if I'm wrong?? And he was a giant.

45g is bare minimum and I usually breed 50g+. It depends on the female, some females dont make it to 60g so if she looks like she has a nice thick tail then it would be fine to breed 50g.

Does your scale measure in grams? It would be easier than having to convert and no errors would occur.

UGH!!! Looks like I have to get a new scale!!! It's is a weird scale to read. I basically don't want my females to be bred if they can't be. I want them at a good weight ya know!!! I want to make sure they are heathly and could bare eggs. I'm gonna really have to check that scale huh!!!

Yeah, give it a double check. I don't have a super expensive scale. It's good and admirable that you want the best for your 'kids' and not just rushing into it :)
