Hey,
I recently purchased a baby gecko from Petco(I know, I should have used a breeder...), but it has a very thin tail. It is about 4 inches long, so I'm pretty sure it can't eat wax worms to fatten it up. It hasn't shed in the 2 weeks that I have had it. It is eating its crickets (about 2 per day, vitamin dusted), and its poop is normal. How can I fatten up its tail?
I will try to put up pictures soon.

Waxworms are actually very squishy and easy to eat...try tossing one in with the crix.
What size crix are you using? That may not be enough, 2 per day. 3-5 crickets and 1-2 waxworms everday to every other day would help. Have any pictures? How are your temps?

i know im nurseing a pet store gecko right now- he eats like a champ though- depending on the size of the food ( no larger than the space between thier eyes) they can eat quite a few at this young age- mine can eat around 6-10 small to medium crickets in a blink ATLEAST.
is your gecko still looking around for food after you feed him? thats a sign that he is still hungry and can be fed more. geckos dont realy get fat, they will stop eating when they are full- at that point, you just need to remove the remaining crickets he hasnt eaten within 15-30 mins ( so they dont torture him)- make sure you watch to see just how many your gecko eats and you can better understand how many to drop in, etc.
hope he fattens up quick ;)

The gecko doesn't really eat fast... he kind of just finishes his food overnight, even if I drop the crickets right in front of him. My hot side of the tank is about 91-94 and the cold side is about 75-80. It's living alone. I'm using small crickets.

My little guy was a pet store gecko, too. He was only 3 grams. Now he is up to 15 grams in two months. Waxworms will help.... And, don't forget a moist hide!!

The fact that he is eating is a great sign. Even if it isn't much, but considering your most recent post, it sounds like he's doing much better with food. How many mealworms does he eat and how often?
