Think my gecko is drowning...

I am writing this as quick as possible, but I just tried giving my very sick gecko medicine. At first she did not respond to drops on the nose, but she did crack her mouth for me and start licking. I kept dripping the medicine while she was licking and standing high on her front legs. I thought this was good, but she had recently started flattening her head and medicine bubble are coming out her nose. I think I got medicine in her weak lungs. She looks very bad. Does anybody have any suggestions before I resort to killing her.

Well, she passed about 15 minutes ago. It is probably for the best. She had a very stressful day, and was obviously not happy. In the future I will have a better idea of the warning signs and treat sooner. Apparently, low calcium can lead to egg binding as well and I will make sure to offer more calcium than I have been. Sorry to start such a bummer thread... At least her suffering is over.

You may not like this statement, but:
You simply can't just plunge a syringe dose into a reptile; it MUST be done drop-drop-drop by drop. I usually allow 2-3 drops, then 2-3 breaths.

My deepest condolences to you about your saddening experience with this breeder. I would hug you if I could, if it would comfort you. =(

You did the right thing by taking her in to the vet. Maybe go back to them with another gecko and some water and ask them to demonstrate; and then have you demonstrate back to let them critique your administering technique? Some things are easier to learn by observation than description...

That sucks - I am so very sorry

As to dosing with a syringe - I just recently had to do this very thing for 2 weeks straight. I followed what my vet demonstrated and did indeed just give Geek the full shot of 2.0 mil in one swoop and did so with no issues for 2 weeks straight.
