I'm thinking pf getting a crestie and I'm looking for a basic rundown on thier care and setup. I've been doing alot of googling and am getting different info or just not the info I'm looking for. I have a 24" (h)x 18x18 tank. I'm planning on using coconut fiber liner as substrate. I will be getting branches and fake plants and things. Do these guys require humidity? Are they as easy to care for as leos? And temps? My house stays around 75, would that be sufficent to not need heating? Any other tips/advice is welcomed thanks

DO IT! They are very easy...your house temps are fine as long as they dont go above the mid 80s, and below low 60s. For babies they should be kept in a kritter keeper, most people keep them like that until they are about 20 grams. They do require humidity, so you have to mist their enclosure. I do it lightly in the morning and heavily at night. They are easier than leos in some ways also b/c they dont NEED live food, there is a powdered diet that you just add water to, Crested Gecko Diet (CGD) or Meal Replacement Powder (MRP) (you'll see it labeled both ways ;)) But most people feed the occasional cricket or 2 as a treat weekly or biweekly. For babies most people use papertowel, but then when they are older, you can use eco-earth, etc. There are so many options, but everything usually has a risk of some sort:main_rolleyes:
After they reach a certain size, your 18x18x24 will be perfect!

Yep, pretty much what Tara said.

Usually, if you're comfortable (temp-wise), then your crestie will be comfortable. I have a few crested geckos, and they're just too cool. Probably my favorite type of gecko, actually.

Oh, and also, I have my two little guys in a Sterilite shoe box (seperate boxes). You can usually find them really cheap at home improvement stores. I usually get 3 boxes for $4. But, you can find them for .99 cent at some places. I usually drill holes around the rim of the box, about 1/2" to 1" apart...all the way around. This allows for ventilation, and helps keep in humidity.

I'll move them to a bigger enclosure when they reach about 15 grams.

Great info thanks. That is what I was looking for. I've decided to go to the white plains show in april and get one. That will give me a month to set up the viv.

Have fun. I do suggest if you get a small one to put it in a small enclosure like a kritter keeper or sterilite box. You can either drill holes or burn them with a soldering iron. Just be sure to do that outside because the plastic fumes aren't very pleasant. If you get a larger one it should be fine going directly into the viv. I have one viv that came with a styrofoam background fake stone wall. They love to climb up that then hang upside down from the screen top. Had a crestie in there until it sold, then put a gargoyle in it. Both like to hang from the screen. Cracks me up.
