Ok, I am looking at time as a substrate now.

It a tile substrate grouted in and all as if I were tiling my bathroom? Are tiles just laid in the tank? I did a search and came up with very little aside from it's the favorite of many.

Thanks,
Shandley

I have a layer of repti-carpet on the very bottom of my tank, and I just laid the tiles on top of it. I don't know if you would really want to grout the tiles to the tank, it might make it harder to clean out later on.

I just put my tiles down on top of the glass bottom in the tank. I find it works best this way to two reasons:

-easy to take the tiles out for cleaning of the tank occasionally

-better heat transfer from the UTH under the tank to the top of the tile. I actually had a heating problem initially when I first switched to tiles. The UTH couldn't get the tiles up to the same temps as before. I had to cover the UTH with tin foil to try and direct more heat to the bottom of the tank.
