Some of you have read about our rescued geckos and the whle tail issue . Well the guy that owned them prior to us called yesterday because he realized that he had forgot , with the tail thing and all, to tell us that the male and one of the females had bred right before we got them from him. That would make it about a week ago. Mekare, the female is 1.5 years old. When we got her she was 28 grams but she has been eating well and is up to 34 grams. This is no where near where she should be. If she is gravid what should I do to help her get up to a healthy weight before time to lay? She is eating meal worms very well. She will eat an occasional cricket and wax worm but she prefers mealies. I offered her a calcium dipped pinkie but she wanted nothing to do with that. I have been feeding her and her tank mate ( all 3 came in the same tank but i seperated Khayman do to his tail issues) twice a day and both have been eating 10-12 mealies at each feeding. I have also been giving them herpavite 2X week and regular calcium 1Xdaily and calcium with d3 1Xweek. Is there more that I should be doing. Their temps are 88 on the warm side and 78 on the cooler side. they are in a 40 breeder tank and have 3 dry hides, a humid hide each ( Mekare has her on the ground floor and Gabrielle prefers hers up on the second level of the caves that my husband made for them.) I also have made a lay box with bed a beast in case she is gravid. I use paper towels in their humid hides that I mist 2Xday because they did not like the moss that I used. Oh yeah they have an infared light and an UTH. I measure the temps on the warm side with a digital that has a probe and on the cool side we have a small digital therm that sets on the shelf. Their humidity levels are usually between 27% and 30 %. She was at the vet last Wednesday but at that time we had no idea that she had been bred. She was underweight slightly but she came back negative for any sort of parasite.
Sounds to me like you are doing everything possible to ensure that they get back to good health
I would suggest leaving a bowl of dusted meal worms in the tank 24/7 for them to eat whenever they choose(they can munch all night if they choose)-especially for the gravid/possibly gravid female
Just toss any uneaten worms the next day and fill the bowl with fresh
If they don't catch on to the worms being in the bowl right away
Slowly drop some worms into the bowl -sometimes just the noise will stimulate their interest and they will come toward it and check it out
Geckos are usually pretty nosy-lol
I don't think that you are going to have many uneaten ones -lol
Thanks. I put a dish of mealies ( 20) in last night and they were all gone this morning so I refilled it. I have pnoenix worm that I give to my BD. I also have silk worms and green horn worm.I just worry that if she is gravid it will be a stress on her. I will just keep offering her all the food that she wants. Thanks for the advice.
