The begining of this month I bought leopard gecko from repticon. I've usually a very prepared person and like to have everything set up first, but wasnt planning on getting a leo that day! So i literally had nothing prepared. Whoops.
Anyways, I had to have him. I live with my parents and for about a month before repticon I kept hinting to my mom about me wanting a leopard gecko. She doesnt really like reptiles but doesnt like my rats either. She deals. Anyways I texted her a picture and said 'Sorry I have to.' And she replied 'Your money, your choice.' So i bought him.
I have done research prior, so I knew enough about what I was getting into. I bought him and went home. I dropped him off at my house, in the little plastic container her was in, safely in my room. I then hurried to the petstore to buy the essentials. I already had a 10 gallon tank, bought a hide, thermometer and mealworms at repticon. At the store I bought another hide, leaves, water dish, mealworm dish, stacking rocks, UTH, thermometer and Repashy Calcium plus. I went home and set up his new home.
At first I used paper towels, but now use tile, with sand in the cracks against the glass so crickets dont hide and he doesnt let his legs down there or anything. This doesnt risk impacton right? Theres literally less than an inch on all 4 sides.
So he finally started eating a few days ago, and seems to be settled in well. He doesnt mind being handled and loves chilling on my shoulder. He has bite me once though, prety bad. My fault though. he was with me on my bed and took off for the edge, so to prevent him falling i grabbed him quickly from behind, and scared the crap out of him so he bit. Other than that, which was my fault he is great.
I dust every feeding (every other day or so) in the supplement, and gut load the mealworms and crickets. The UHT stays around 90 and is on constantly. The hide on the cooler end is moist moss, the warm end is dry.
Also, he shed last week, I found a peice of his shed in the tank, why didnt he eat it? And there was a tiny bit on his toes so I soaked him in warm water for a few minutes and he was fine after that. Is there anything I need to change? is his set up okay? Any tips? Thanks!
This was taken about a week ago. I now have the small mealworm dish in the middle front, and the warm hide (right) was replaced and is bigger and more enclosed. He is almost always in the warm hide. Its where he sleeps during the day. At night he explores though.
