too much food for baby gecko

just wondering if its possible to feed a baby gecko too much. i usually feed mine 8-10 small crickets a night as that was all it would usually eat, i would put more in but it would just ignore them. well tonight i thought i would just give it as much as it wants.

so instead of its usual 10 small crickets its just ate

8 small crickets
15 small dubia roaches
and 12 medium dubia roaches

is it bad it ate all that. there are a few roaches left in the tank and its still hunting and eating them

To my knowledge, geckos regulate their own food, they know when they are hungry and they know when they are full, but that is an aweful lot of food! I don't feed my geckos roaches, so I'm not sure how big they are. When my gecko (Mango) was growing, she sometimes ate upwards of 40 mealworms a night, if that is any help to you. I would say that your gecko is likely just hungry because he/she is growing. So unless anyone else disagrees, I would continue feeding him/her whatever he/she eats, I think usually the standard is whatever it will eat within 15 minutes.

with the medium roaches i usually pick out the smallest ones as most are too big for it

They turn most of what they consume immediately into growth, so it is nearly impossible to overfeed a baby gecko. I personally leave out a dish of 10 to 20 mealworms per gecko all the time, in addition to roaches and crickets.

Sounds like your gecko was super hungry and ate its fill!

i've had leos, when given mealworm dishes, feed until they regurgitated, then did it again, and once more. that's right...3 masses of regurgitated mealworms. not only does that smell horrible, it's not really good for the gecko.

most of the animals won't do that, so you just have to go on a case by case basis. if the animal doesn't regurgitate, i'd say there's no problem with the amount of food it's eating.

I've never had a gecko regurgitate but I have had one get too fat! It is a case by case scenario
