Too warm?!

Right now, my leo is living in a 10 gallon tank. He has a zoo med UTH pad, and as it is night time right now, a 60 watt red bulb. The floor temp is around 100F, but it doesn't feel too warm. Without the light, it's at around 90F.

Should I keep the light on? I'm not using one during the day. And can I keep it running all night if I do keep it on?

Thanks! :)

Its not gonna feel warm to you since your body temp is 98.5
100 degrees is to hot man, is this the temp at the floor where the Leo is laying and what kind of thermometer are you using to measure all your temps???

I suggest you be very careful with the ZooMed UTH I have a smaller one that gets way to hot, over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. It has even gotten so hot that the plastic covering of the UTH is starting to get hard. I have decided to stop using it, I am afraid it is going to burn my girl or worse burn my house..

It's at 100F on the warm side, where the UTH and the bulb are. He was lying under the light earlier, but I switched off because I was getting worried.
I got a light dimmer today for the bulb, which seems to be working fairly. The ground temp is currently 93-95F.
I've got an Exo-Terra thermometer on the ground just now, but I'm thinking of getting a digital one for more accurate results.

I'm using the 1-5 gallon size just now. The warmest it has gotten is around 85-88F, just by itself. I've had it running most of yesterday, all last night, and all day today. I've been checking it regularly and it hasn't gotten hotter than that. Should I be cautious of it? :main_huh:

I was using the Exo-Terra UTH before, but it gave me close to no heat. Seeing all the bad reviews, and being told by a staff member at another pet store that they weren't that good, I went for the ZooMed instead.

I only use the exo Terra pads, I had a zoo med one for a 20 gallon tank hit 120degrees farenheit. After that high temp I took it back got another zoomed and it did the same thing. I swapped it out for a exo Terra and now I have used 3 exo tetras mats with no problem at all.
Do yourself a big favor, go to walmart in the electrical section and get a accurite digital thermometer with a probe. They run $10 but they are the best. Place the unit on your cool side and place the probe on your floor. The probe has a sticky pad on it so it will stick to the tank floor. I don't know what kind of substrate you use tho. I use porcelain tile so I just stuck it right to the tile inside his hot hide.

With the accurite thermo you will get accurate temps since it is digital. It will give you the temp at the probe, at the unit and the humidity level at the unit. It all shows on the digital screen at the same time so there is no guesswork.

If you have a analog thermo or a stick on I guarantee your temp readings are not accurate at all. Get the accurite and call it a day....
