Took a fall

While holding the smallest female, she out of nowhere decided to leap from my hand. She took about a 3ft fall onto the tile floor, landing right on her belly. I picked her back up and put her in her cage and she appears to be acting fine, as if nothing happened. What should I be looking for to make sure she is OK? All her legs seem to be working fine, tail still in tact, etc. What should I do?

Just keep an eye on her for a while and make sure shes acting alright.
A while ago my young female decided she was a crested gecko for the day and she climbed to me head and decided to jump.....while I was standing up! Thank goodness i'm short and she landed right in her water dish and she was a-ok!

Thanks, that is good to hear. For a split second when she hit the floor (Everything is slow motion in my head at this point) she didn't move, then she lifted her head and walked right onto my hand as if nothing had happened.

Just keep an eye on them, they can be squirmy sometimes, especially if they're small and not used to being handled. I've learned that it is best to leave your hand in the tank for a bit each day for them to get used to your presence, and then they sometimes will let you pick them up but you have to wait for them to come to you. That's what I've read anyways.

This one is the squirmiest, but until then, once she was actually in our hands she never cause much of a fuss.

True, once they are actually in your hand, they usually will calm down. It takes a minute or so but that's because they're not used to so much activity I guess. That and not all leos like to be handled, mine's picky about it. He gets fussy when I'm picking him up to his other temp home while I'm cleaning the tank.

Because she landed on her tummy hard, you might wanna check her tummy for internal bleeding. Big patches or dark blue can be a sign of bleeding.
Be careful not to confuse any blue spots which are just parts of her insides though.

Ouch, man that would scare me half to death. Another reason why I just leave my guy alone unless it's supper time, or cleaning the tank time. And yea I still let him try to get used to my presence, but I don't want to stress him out,

Gecko's tails are a lot hardier than some people think. But at the same time they can drop really easily. Its odd.

Some gecko's can drop their tails if they get a fright from a loud noise.

But at the same time, most breeders pick their gecko's up by the tail (in a certain way/method) to check for ovulation and egg development and its one of the safest ways to check.

Im afraid to even touch mines tail. I hope your gecko heals up with no infection.

She didn't drop her tail, thankfully. She looks to be fine, I think I was more shaken up than she was. According to my girlfriend, I exaggerated the fall distance in my panic, she says I was only holding her about a foot and half from the ground.

Well it's a good thing the tail didn't come off. I know they grow back, or are supposed to, but they never look the same as the original tail.
