Took A Leap

I run an inhome daycare and my other half had Dora out, she has more then doubled in size! The kids all know to move slow and they enjoy looking at her and learning about her and some of the older kids occasionally get to hold her for a few moments. She's become sort of a mascot for my business lol. Feeding her is now a spectator sport!

But one of the parents showed up early and the child got excited and ran and Dora flipped out and took a dive from about five feet up! She didn't seem worse for the wear minus a bit sketchy and we immediatley put her back in the tank and told the kids she needed a calm down break so no peering in the sides.

Is there anything I should keep an eye out for? I was so worried! She's gotten bigger but she's still small and it was a far fall that resulted in one of my dogs taking a sniff (not a lunge or anything) at her.

Can a tail fall off later due to the stress of the situation? Or could she of broken a teeny bone that I didn't notice? Is it normal for a leo to take a flying squirrel leap! This hasn't happened before and from now on we will be holding and looking at her while sitting on the floor above a pillow!

I've heard leos can be a bit jumpy sometimes. I know my cresties have made many unexpected leaps into thin air and landed on the hard floor, and I've never had any problems afterward. I'm sure she'll be fine.

Dont worry about it, My geckos have taken falls before and Geckos normally would rather take the jump. Just be careful around Hard floor and Height of jumps.

Leopard geckos normally dont jump, it's more of a arboreal thing for them to jump around. They only jump off when they're annoyed or scared. There shouldn't be anything to worry about, just make sure that whenever she's out, the person holding her washes his/her hands first, then sits on the ground with her crawling on them or in their hands.

phew, he was on his way to a place to sit so he was in motion when she decided to abort her position. We always wash hands before and after, it's a habit I got into when I had newts since salty hands can harm them plus the illnesses they can carry. Thanks for all the reassurances guys!

No problem, Thanks for taking out advice. But yes geckos will commonly jump if scared so make sure that your holding the gecko with 2 Hands, Its secure and don't let sick people touch geckos. Caleb brought up an important topic, If any one is known to be sick keep them away from your geckos. We transmit more to them then they could ever transmit to us.
