Tremper or bell?

The person I got him from says he's a mack snow albino [bell] but after looking at some pictures online, the bells eyes seem to be a much more visible pinkish color than his is so I'm left a bit unsure of if he's actually a bell.

Also he actually lives in an aquarium set up. He was just in one of the tubs of my new rack for a photo shoot.

Without knowing the parents or test breeding to both Tremper and Bell there is no way of knowing for sure if your gecko is one or both of the strains. I would guess Tremper but again, its only a guess.

^^ +1....test breeding only way but that leaves you with taboo hatchlings: "het bell het tremper". the hatchlings of these hatchings will have completely unpredictable genetics :(.

Im pretty sure that even with bells, the pigment gets darker with age. So you might see pinkish pigment in online pics of younger bells??

Best way is to get parent info from breeder. :)

I see.. He might eventually get a lady friend so it can be tested. Also one of the main images I was looking at when trying to look it up was this image here.
Was really hoping he was a tremper but I guess if he really is a bell, he could be used to produce radars or kept as a single male. Wasn't aiming for radars but ah well, whatcha going to do?

Sorry to say but to really test a gecko with unknown genetics you need to cross with a visual known Tremper, Bell, AND Rainwater. One albino hatchling will tell you the gene for that strain is present but you'll need 20 visual non-albino hatchlings from the other strains to be reasonably sure an additional albino het is not present. That's a minimum of 41 hatchlings (probably a couple more), several hundred dollars in female geckos and a few breeding seasons to be sure of an unknown geckos background and sell the babies as more than pets.

Yep. I wanted to breed my petstore blizzard but it was best not to. Too many unknowns and not enough would be known about the hat hlings genetics...so no one would want them as pets if they have to pay $50 extra for shipping.
