Trying to eat his log?

Why does my Juvy Gecko keep licking his log? It's like he's trying to eat it or something. He also tried to pull some of it off. I feed him daily. Why is he doing this? Do I have to be worried about impaction?

The licking is actually his way of sensing things--like snakes do. I'm assuming this is one of those 1/2 logs with bark on the outside. If he's pulling pieces of it off, I'd remove it from the cage & get any loose pieces off. If it continues to be an issue, I'd switch to a different kind of hide.

Sorry, I have no idea as to why he would be pulling it apart.

Well, he doesn't do it routinely. It was the first time I saw him do it. And there's no loose pieces around the tank either. It's driftwood.
