How difficult would it be to cut holes in the sides of these shelves to insert heat cable? If I calculated correctly, these shelves would hold about 4 6-qt hatchling tubs...

I have no experience building racks or anything and this Ikea shelf unit is about $60.
Also, I was considering using this shelf thingy...

And using heat cable. I would use about 6 hatchling 6-qt tubs per shelf. Would this work too?
Another question, is a 12-qt tub with these measurements
16.5"L x 11.5"W x 6.25"H
Enough for one adult? I want to house my adults separately when I start to breed.
