Hey guys,

I'm getting an adult corn snake pretty soon, and was wondering what would be best to house it: a 30g long aquarium with a screen top (not locking, not sliding: I'd get clips) or a plastic shoebox (about the same floor space as a 30g) with a snap on lid. The lid only snaps on the two shorter ends, so is it possible the snake could push on the sides that don't snap and escape? Which is more escape proof? Which stores heat best?

Go with the tank. Those plastic bins are useless unless they are in some kind of rack when it comes to snakes. They can and do squeeze out of the smallest of openings.

Definitely go for the tank. For added snake security, I'd recommend covering all but the front side of the tank with something, could be paper, cardboard, etc. so that there is only 1 viewing plane. This will allow the snake to feel more secure in the habitat. If you can find one, or have the money to upgrade to one, I recommend looking for a front opening enclosure. I know it helped get rid of any tank aggression that any of our reptiles had, since you won't be reaching in grabbing them from above them (like a predator would in the wild).
