ok so they are not really tweedle beetles... as those are from the Dr. Suess book "Fox in Sox" * my daugher's fav. book!* but thats what we call them in this house... so anyways... our mealie aliens are changing into "tweedle beetles" now and happening pretty fast... i seem to remember reading somewhere to not give the tweedles moisture, is this correct? or should i keep some carrot in there with them? or....? and when and if i ever get to seein some babies... how long before i give them a carrot? as always thanks in advanced... this place rocks! :main_thumbsup:

Once they turn into alien's, err, "tweedle beetles", they can be put on fresh bedding, like wheat bran (they wont eat it, they will lay eggs in it) w/o any moisture for the intire time it takes them to lay eggs (about 4 weeks after they become beetles).
After the 4 weeks are up, you can toss the beetles (if they havent already died).

i give my beetles carrots/apples/oranges for moisture and i know they eat it, becuase i see them do it. they mob it.

im assuming if they eat it, it probably makes them able to lay bigger/healthier eggs. of course im just guessing, but it makes sense that a well fed animal will be healthier than a starving animal.

The beetles last MUCH longer and can lay many more eggs if moisture is provided. It probably depends a bit on your climate... here in AZ they definitely don't last long without a moisture source.

I use the same thing as I use for my mealies. In my case, bran, oats, flax, brewer's yeast, powdered milk (or Ensure), a dish of water gel, and carrots / potatoes / etc. as available.

i use whole wheat flour and dried egg mixture with calcium and vitamins added in, then i throw in a couple of those orange cubes for moisture every few days if they need it.
