Twitching Tail

I have a blazing blizzard (male?) leopard gecko. He is only about 5 months old or so. He's usually pretty friendly and calm but today for the first time ever he jumped out of my hand.

As soon as he hit the floor his tail started twitching, but only for about 5 seconds and then quit. Does this automatically mean it's going to fall off later?? because it twitched?

When I saw his tail twitch I hurried and placed my hands in front of him on the ground instead of behind as I didn't want him to think he had been attacked and then drop his tail. He saw my hands and then walked straight into them, no more twitching tail.

I put him back in his Viv and he went to his usual spot and went to sleep and seems calm now.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks
David :)

I have had this happen before a couple times. It is sometimes a reaction to falling or other incident. I had one do it when she got her nose pinched while pushing her tub back in the rack. The vet really didn't explain why it happens, but it does. Nothing to be worried about as long as the animal is able to move ok and you don't see anything else out of the ordinary.

Yeah, it's kinda scary. I've read where they can fall, and if their tail twitched alot, but doesn't break off right they, they will sometimes drop it later, even up to 6 hours. So I was really worried. But it's morning and he's still fine :)

He should be ok. He could of also been excited from smelling your females if you just handled them (tail rattling). =D I am not sure how far he jumped could of been shock from falling. It sounds like he will be fine.
