Ugly humid hides

Hi again! Well, heres my issue. Amara has about grown out of her little tupperware and is due for a size upgrade, also with the addition of my AFT I was looking into getting a nicer, more natural looking one for both of them. Hello price shock!! :main_no::shocked2::shocked2:

Ok, so I'm looking at the bowls and thinking, ya know you get all these backgrounds and pretty dry hides and stuff and then u gotta stick an ugly plastic bowl in there. :main_thumbsdown:

So I was thinking....(ok, run now! lol) Isn't there a way to make a nice looking hide with the ease of the plastic bowls, with entry holes that they dont need a ladder for, will hold humidity well, yet won't make you eat hot dogs for the rest of the month? :main_huh: Has anyone else looked into this?

I think I may a trip to the local hardware store and see what I can get into tommorrow. ;):p I've got some ideas I want to look into. :main_robin: Wish me luck!!

If you want to go the cheap way, you can take that same tupperware
tub and cover it with grout. Than just paint it, and add a few layers
of sealer. I think that should resist the humidity, and will look however
you design it.
You would probably have to cover the tub with masking tape or something
because the grout will not stick to the plastic.

i can relate with the ugly humid hides you speak of. I didnt feel like spending any money so i found some camoflauge duct tape and wrapped my gladware in it. Still looks ugly, but looks ALOT better :main_laugh:

I don't know if you like this or not but it's what I did for my toilet paper roll and humid hide.

I used Tanga's idea and used Mod Podge Glue and sprinkled decor sand in the color of my choice, kept it doing it until i got it like I wanted it then stuff some plants around it. The yellow bottom looks ugly because I honestly forgot about it, lol

It was fairly cheap. The container was a used butter container, the glue was $8 for 16oz (Tanga's tutorial said you just need 4oz to make atleast 5hides but 16ox was the only thing I could find) 1lb Decor sand $1.40 and a paint brush. One or two days to dry.

I'm unsure as to how much you are wanting to spend but the zoo-med 3 in 1 hides work great, and look EXTREMELY natural. A medium sixe works well for 1-3 adults and I belive is around $15 online (not sure on shipping). If you are up for a bit of work with grout and foam PM me and I'll tell you some of my ideas, but know that they may not be the most cost effective thing if you are only making one. If you are looking to make one for the AFT and one for the leo I would think that then you would save a bit of money. Let me know.

I still use a tubberware container because its easy to clean; just cut the opening to the side and then lay a nice piece of towel on top. You can choose a brownish colored towel to match the color of the other furnishing. The towel can also provide shade to the humid hide!

Here is one of my old setting, the humid hide is at the right hand back:

Like most people I use rubbermaid bowls for my humid hides. I paint them using that krylon fusion paint for plastics. The paint is kinda expensive but it makes it more cost effective if you do a bunch at one time. I get black and whatever color i want the outside to be. First i paint the lids and bowls black on the outside. This will make the inside of the humid hide dark. Then i let the paint dry and paint over the black with whatever color i want the hide to be. If you really want to get fancy they also have a rock textured spray paint you could use. Just be sure to let the humid hides air out for a few days. I spent around $15 to $20 to do 12 hides.
