Using Slate Tile and UTH

I have a 12" x 24" tank I want to use for my future leopard gecko. I want to use slate tile for my substrate. I'm considering a couple of different UTHs.

Zoo Med's recommended mat size for a 15 gallon tank would not cover the recommended 1/3 of the tank, so I e-mailed them asking for their input. Their response was that I shouldn't use slate tile as it won't allow the heat to dissipate.

And of course I can't find the e-mail now, but I believe when I inquired about Intelli-temp they also took issue with slate tile.

Ultratherm so far is the only one who didn't immediately have issues with slate tile.

For those using slate tile: What UTH are you using? How thick is your tile?

I use slate tile in my tank and use the zoo med UTH and the heat goes through it very well. I've never had any problems keeping the proper temp in my tank for my leo...i believe the slate is about 3/4 inch.

I use ultratherm UTH's, but I do not use slate tile for substrate. I see no reason, however, why they would think it would be an issue. Especially for the Zoo Med one's, that heat up super hot anyway.
