UTH AND FURNITURE

HI, I WAS WONDERING IF UTH CAN DESTROY,DISCOLOR,FURNITURE UNDER THE CAGE. I BOUGHT A SHOWCASE CAGE THAT HAS A SPOT FOR THE UTH ,AND COMES WITH THE 4 CORNER SPACERS. CAN YOU PUT SOMETHING BETWEEN THE UTH AND THE FURNITURE OR WILL THAT CAUSE TO MUCH HEAT? ALSO WILL DUCT TAPE WITH STAND THE HEAT. I'M AFRAID THE SELF STICK WONT STAY ON THE CAGE AND WANTED TO JUST TAPE A LITTLE PORTION ON THE EDGE OF THE UTH. THANKS,JEFF

UTH ......table on fire?

Hi. Now, don't bill me for a nice table due to my comments.. ...but I put a 40 gal. tank with a UTH that was I think a 40 or 50 gal size heater. I put it on a nice desk. I did buy higher corner risers, than the plastic ones that came with it.I think they were maybe a felt like material. I wondered about the same thing you are but since the desk was given to me I may not have had as much concern about discoloring. I later re-placed the tank to another wire rack. There is no sign of any burning or discoloring at all. I know some of the large UTH will discolor the wet paper towels inside my humid hides though. I could stick a finger under the area of the heater placement and it seemed not to be a problem as long as there was a good open air space. Watch the spacers don't come off if moving for any reason. If still worried, try getting a 1/4 In. lauan board cut to fit on the furniture piece....then use the spacers and set the whole thing on the lauan board. Take care. UTH and FURNATURE

Thanks HJ I went to the hardware store and found higher spacers and put cardboard under the cage . Thanks for responding ,Jeff
