well today i did my cage cleaning and i used two layers of paper towels, but i found out after a few hours of being set up that its getting too hot so what i did was to get a car board piece and put it right above the UTH and under the paper towels to brigh it down it still pretty hot but not as hot, also i have the prove inside the hide (the ceramic bulb box) and might be one of the reasons why is it too hot but i still decided to put the card board is there anything else i could do????

If you want a peace of mind, you could get a thermostat and pretty much not have to worry about it anymore.

If not, you could try using tiles.

Try this one, great reviews, and it's probably the only digital reading thermostat you'll find at that price range.

Tail should be plump but if you have a growing gecko that's under 1 year old, it's ok if their tail isn't fat. They use a lot of the nutrients and fat growing and filling their body up, a lot of the fat doesn't get stored up until later on.

well i was told it was between 1-3 years old n it was only fed 1-2 crickets a day, now s/he eats 5+ mealworms a day plus 4-5 crickets oh yeah today i gave it some wax worms as a treat

i went to the petstore and i asked for a thermostat or rheostat and as i was talking to the "reptile/leopard gecko expert" said that my problem is that i dont have sand or the exo terra thing as a substrate and thats why it gets too hot and it will void any 30 day guarantee on geckos for it, so i decided to go get the tiles from home depot

How accurate is that thermostat and how does it work? Is there a temp probe you put in the tank or something that attached to the heat pad? Something else?

Also I'm a little confused by this thread. Are we saying you can't use paper towels if you use a heat pad?

I got mine (the one Mardy recommended) and it does have a temp probe. Where do I put the temp probe? In the tank on the floor (which I guess would mean cutting a hole in the tank cover or leaving it partially open) or put it between the mat and the glass?
